Harold Walker Jetty
A pedestrian-only jetty reaching out from the end of the Dunwich causeway on North Stradbroke Island. It was built in 1986 and named after Harold Walker, whose Vega ferry service ran for twenty years until 1974.
That passenger-only ferry was ultimately unable to compete with the vehicular barges that could carry cars across to the mainland — and so a quiet piece of the island’s working history ended, leaving its name on a jetty that now mostly carries people out to watch the water.
